Heartbreak as Stingers second by a second

Our Stingers went oh so close at the Australian Relay Championships on Sunday, being pipped in the finish chute by ACT in the men's elite class.

Rob Bennett gave it everything but Ian Lawford had just a bit too much as they rounded the final bend in the race for home (see pic).

Alex Massey and Toby Wilson put NSW in the lead with two fast, consistent runs - but WOC rep Lawford triumphed in a grandstand finish.

NSW winners were W45 (Jenny Enderby, Karen Blatchford, Barbara Hill), M35 (Jock Davis, Lee Coady, Damian Enderby), M45 (Eric Morris, Peter Annetts, Scott Simson), M65 (Robert Preston, Ross Barr, Gordon Wilson).

Rumour has it an ONSW employee was waiting in line for the portaloos when his relay buddy finished in just 12 minutes, and was subsequently eight minutes late tagging her to start the second leg. Sounds like a wombie!

Thanks to OQ for a lovely setting at Mundoolun. Map attached.
