Welcome to Orienteering NSW

Orienteering is a sport that challenges both the body and the mind. It's also loads of fun!

The aim is to use a special orienteering map to navigate your way around a course and visit marked check points along the way. You choose a course that suits your age and experience and proceed at your own pace: walk, jog or run. It is a race but you decide if you want to just race yourself or be the next world champion! The course may take you through urban areas, parks, schools, farmland or forests.

Events are conducted weekly across NSW and beginners are welcome at all events.

New to orienteering? Click here for more information.

Want to enter an event? You can see what's on by looking at the Coming Events at left or by going to the Event Calendar. Some events are enter on the day - you just turn up and register at the start. Other events require pre-entry and for that you need to know about (and register with) Eventor - read the Eventor FAQ.

Uringa training course starts on Sunday

Uringa are putting on a "Learn to Navigate" 4-week course in the eastern suburbs, starting this Sunday (November 2).

This beginners course gives you all the tools to get out and orienteer! Over 4 weeks Michele Dawson (Australian junior rep) and Lawrence Jones (NSW Schools Squad member) will introduce you to the techniques to make your navigation secure.

Sessions and course materials include:

  • Map reading
  • Introduction to key orienteering techniques
  • How to read contours and navigate efficiently
  • Key elements of good route choice
  • How to use a compass at speed

Cost is $75 for individuals, $99 for families - with discounts for ONSW members.  Can’t come to the whole course but want some top quality coaching? You can book in for a single session.

Details and bookings are at www.trybooking.com/108580

Each session runs from 2-4pm, after which you have time to get to the Southern Sydney Summer Series event that day to put your theory into practice. The first two weeks are at Centennial Park.
