2022 MetrO League 4

Last Updated: Thursday, 01 September 2022 10:50

Some of our sub-juniors - still in primary school - have been tearing it up in the Sydney MetrO League.

Division 6 was introduced in 2020 to be an introduction to bush orienteering for younger kids and older newcomers. The standard is Easy, with later controls on the course on the easy side of Moderate.

WHO 10-year-olds Shay Sweeney and Justine de Remy de Courcelles are leading the individual standings in Div 6, while team-mates Levi Coady (8) and Thomas Spencer (12) are also doing really well.

For ladder leaders Garingal Blue Tongues, Tania Horrocks (11) made up for a mispunch last round with 9 points on Sunday at Wianamatta in round 4. Her team is almost assured of the trophy.

Bennelong Northside don't have a team in Div 6 but that doesn't stop Max Povah, aged 8 who went out on his own for the first time!

Max caught up to ML co-ordinator Ian Jessup late in their runs on Sunday and proudly said "I am doing this all by myself!"

With one round left before the finals, in Divn 1 it will be a Big Foot-Garingal final regardless of the results at Smiths Creek. Big Foot are also into the Divn 2 final, with Bennelong needing a win against the GO Frill Necks to join them.

The Feet also lead Divn 3 but four teams are on four points so it's anyone's race.

Unbeaten Bennelong look hot favourites in Divns 4 and 5.

See the ML web page (link) for all the results. Thanks to WHO for a lovely day out at Wianamatta.
