Welcome to Orienteering NSW

Orienteering is a sport that challenges both the body and the mind. It's also loads of fun!

The aim is to use a special orienteering map to navigate your way around a course and visit marked check points along the way. You choose a course that suits your age and experience and proceed at your own pace: walk, jog or run. It is a race but you decide if you want to just race yourself or be the next world champion! The course may take you through urban areas, parks, schools, farmland or forests.

Events are conducted weekly across NSW and beginners are welcome at all events.

New to orienteering? Click here for more information.

Want to enter an event? You can see what's on by looking at the Coming Events at left or by going to the Event Calendar. Some events are enter on the day - you just turn up and register at the start. Other events require pre-entry and for that you need to know about (and register with) Eventor - read the Eventor FAQ.

Callan Park SSS postponed

We are postponing Wednesday's Sydney Summer Series event at Callan Park due to the forecast of heavy rain (100-160mm), storms and strong winds (35-50km/h) for the next 36-48 hours.
We realise this is highly unusual but the safety of everyone - organisers and competitors - is paramount. Not to mention that the roads will be dangerous and the event grounds are already saturated.
Monday March 14 is the tentative new date pending council approval.

Sprint workshop a big hit

Around 35 members enjoyed a comprehensive course in everything to do with Sprint orienteering under the tutelage of IOF Senior Event Adviser Nick Dent on Saturday.

2019 junior world champion Aston Key, and multiple world champ rep mum Natasha, also offered their insights in the full-day seminar at Sydney Olympic Park.

Everything was covered, from choice of event arena to what makes a good leg, and how elites prepare for a Sprint.

Thanks to our three presenters and ACPE for hosting us.

Speaking of Sprints, the NSW Sprint Champs are at Ourimbah on Sat Mar 19. Entries close March 13.

SL2 now a Middle Distance

There has been a slight change to our opening State League weekend next month with the Sunday event now a Middle Distance instead of a Long.

Land access issues have forced our Newcastle organisers to reconfigure the event to cater for shorter course lengths than originally planned.

A revised course/class/distance matrix will be published in the next couple of days.
For those already entered, you might wish to change class after this matrix has been published. Simply go back into Eventor and select the desired class. There should be no cost involved and can be done anytime up until entries close.
Please contact the organisers if you do NOT wish to remain on the entry list due to the format change and they will arrange a refund.
