Many of you would be aware of an incident at Sunday's MetrO League final where
a participant collapsed on course.
It is with great sadness that we have to report that Dan Redfern - a much-loved
member of Garingal - died at the scene despite the immediate and sustained
efforts of fellow competitors.
We are all deeply upset and in shock at Dan's sudden passing while doing
something he loved - getting out into the bush.
We would like to formally record our thanks and gratitude to all the orienteers
who rushed to assist in so many ways on Sunday.
That generosity of spirit exemplifies the wonderful sense of community in our sport.
Our thoughts go out to Dan's wife Liz, his closest friends and family, and
everyone who knew him through orienteering.
We will provide funeral details once they are known.
Four new maps will feature in season 36 of the Sydney Summer Series, to start on October 7.
Wentworth Point, Zetland, Baulkham Hills and Northmead will make their SSS debuts as we explore the best of Sydney's harbour, foreshores and parklands every Wednesday afternoon in daylight saving.
The season ticket will again be on offer for members (available soon) and the "no-look" event returns, this time at Artarmon in week 4.
The anniversary line course event will be held at West Pymble in March, and the finale at North Sydney Oval.
EASTER 2027 RACE LOCATIONS REVEALED
Organisers have released details of the venues for the 2027 Easter national carnival in NSW.
It's an early one next year (March 26-29) in the Southern Tablelands area with some maps unearthed from a very dusty vault!
The Prologue Sprint will be on a new map in Goulburn, Days 1-2 on Timberlight near Oallen (not used for more than 20 years), and the last day is at Yuruga at Greenwich Park, also a heritage item!
Entries open later this year.

Our second Sydney City Race is looming fast!
Following the success of our inaugural event in the The Rocks in 2024, this year's race will be in the North Sydney area on Sun Oct 25.
