Welcome to Orienteering NSW

Orienteering is a sport that challenges both the body and the mind. It's also loads of fun!

The aim is to use a special orienteering map to navigate your way around a course and visit marked check points along the way. You choose a course that suits your age and experience and proceed at your own pace: walk, jog or run. It is a race but you decide if you want to just race yourself or be the next world champion! The course may take you through urban areas, parks, schools, farmland or forests.

Events are conducted weekly across NSW and beginners are welcome at all events.

New to orienteering? Click here for more information.

Want to enter an event? You can see what's on by looking at the Coming Events at left or by going to the Event Calendar. Some events are enter on the day - you just turn up and register at the start. Other events require pre-entry and for that you need to know about (and register with) Eventor - read the Eventor FAQ.

2019 NSW Schools Team named

Students from seven of our clubs are in the 2019 NSW Schools team (the Carbines) for the Australian championships in Wagga Wagga in the October holidays.

There are five new faces: Selwyn Sweeney (Western & Hills) and Cameron Will (Illawarra Kareelah, pictured top) in the senior boys, Cooper Horley (Garingal) in the junior boys, and Erika Enderby (Newcastle, pictured below) and Martine Valais (WHO) in the junior girls.

A team of 20 has been selected, the maximum allowed. The strong family element of orienteering is reflected in there being three sets of siblings in the team.

Congratulations to the following students upon their selection:

Senior Girls: Niamh Cassar (WH), Ellen Currie (GO), Tshinta Hopper (BN), Andra Leung (GO)

Senior Boys: Ewan Shingler (BF), Oscar Woolford (BB), Selwyn Sweeney (WH), Cameron Will (IK)

Junior Girls: Erika Enderby (NC), Mikayla Enderby (NC), Iida Lehtonen (GO), Nea Shingler (BF), Julia Barbour (BF), Martine Valais (WH)

Junior Boys: Alvin Craig (NC), Oskar Mella (NC), Sam Woolford (BB), Jamie Woolford (BB), Oliver Freeman (BF), Cooper Horley (GO)

All selected will travel with the team to the Riverina and run in the three schools championship events from October 1-3 (Sprint, Individual and Relay), while also competing in the other major events on both weekends of the carnival.

Manager Damien Enderby will be in contact with team members to co-ordinate travelling arrangements.

ONSW thanks selectors Jock Davis, Hilary Wood and Rob Bennett for their time and energy spent in this important role, and to the Carbine Club for their generous financial support.
