Welcome to Orienteering NSW

Orienteering is a sport that challenges both the body and the mind. It's also loads of fun!

The aim is to use a special orienteering map to navigate your way around a course and visit marked check points along the way. You choose a course that suits your age and experience and proceed at your own pace: walk, jog or run. It is a race but you decide if you want to just race yourself or be the next world champion! The course may take you through urban areas, parks, schools, farmland or forests.

Events are conducted weekly across NSW and beginners are welcome at all events.

New to orienteering? Click here for more information.

Want to enter an event? You can see what's on by looking at the Coming Events at left or by going to the Event Calendar. Some events are enter on the day - you just turn up and register at the start. Other events require pre-entry and for that you need to know about (and register with) Eventor - read the Eventor FAQ.

School is back and so are our regional clubs

Our clubs in Wagga, Orange and Wollongong resume their summer calendars this weekend after a long break for the school holidays.

Always check Eventor or the club website for final details and possible last-minute changes to events.

Goldseekers conduct scatter courses on Friday evenings in Orange, with a start window from 6-6.30pm. This week they are at Elephant Park on National Avenue. In a scatter course you have to visit a set number of controls (eg 20 out of 25) in any order. The fastest time wins.

Waggaroos have moved their summer street series to the cooler timeslot of Sunday mornings, with a start window of 9-10am. It's a score course with a choice of 30 minutes or 45 minutes duration. This week they are at Anderson Oval on Glenfield Road.

Illawarra Kareelah start their Summergong program on Sunday at Thirroul. At each event there will be three line courses on offer (short, medium and long). The start window is 9-10am. This week they are at Thomas Gibson Park in Station Street. You visit the controls in order.

And a reminder that the Central Coast Summer Beach Series finishes this Sunday on a new map at Forresters Beach. This week they are at east end of Crystal Street. The start window is 9.30-11am.

Enderbys nominated for Lake Mac awards

The entire Enderby family from our Newcastle club have been selected as finalists in the Lake Macquarie City awards.

Daughters Mikayla and Erika - members of the winning 2019 NSW Schools Team - are finalists in the Rising Sports Star Awards.

Parents Damien and Jenny - manager and assistant coach respectively of the Carbines - are in the Sports Star awards. Jenny won the Masters Sportsperson of the Year in 2019.

The awards dinner is on February 8.

Entries open for 2020 NSW champs

Entries are now open for the 2020 NSW championships which will be held in Eugowra in the central west of NSW on April 18-19.

That's the weekend after the big annual Easter carnival, which is close by in Molong.

The NSW Middle and Long champs are in bushranger country - set amongst the myriad of granite rocks which provided the cover for the famous stage coach hold-up by Frank Gardiner, Ben Hall and the rest of the gang at nearby Eugowra.

The course also takes in the mining source of the pink granite for Parliament House. Better still, the area provides top class granite orienteering on a map that was used for the 2004 Australian Championships.

It's perfect finale for a week of orienteering in the central west of NSW. Your visit to this beautiful part of NSW will also support our regional communities during this dry spell.

Check out the terrain in this video.

You can enter both events via this link and read Bulletin 1 here.

Level 0 coaching course Jan 22 in Sydney

Our next Level 0 coaching course will be on Wed Jan 22 from 12-4pm at Sydney Olympic Park.

Level 0 is for people coaching newcomers / children, and will include a brief intro in how to use Purple Pen to set courses. For people wishing to coach in the Sporting Schools program, it will include the OK-GO kit.

Please email Jim Mackay (development @ onsw.asn.au) if you are interested. They are free for orienteering club members and some parking can be arranged.

The workshop will finish in time for people to get to the Sydney Summer Series event at Hunters Hill that afternoon.
