A squad of 23 attended the NSW Junior Squad training camp this week in preparation for the Oceania Championships, and the Australian Schools Orienteering Championships this year. Managers Karen and Russell Blatchford, and Head Coach Nick Dent took the opportunity to travel to a variety of locations to give the squad a taste of the race types and terrains that they will have to face in October. Starting with a pairs relays the team overnighted at Belanglo State Forest, then travelled to Wagga Wagga for some sprint training at CSU. Monday and Tuesday saw them training in the bush areas around Beechworth, and at La Trobe University campus where their numbers were swelled by some of the Victorian Junior Squad. The return trip took in their 'Camp Champs', the intra-squad competition that finishes every training squad. The Senior Boys trophy was carried off by Alex Massey, with Michele Dawson winning the Senior Girls. Aidan Dawson made sure that the family trophy cabinet was stocked by winning the Junior Boys and Rebecca George had her first Camp Champs win for the Junior Girls.
