Caleb and Ethan made it three wins in a row by taking out Tuesday's Kids in the Park Space Racing event. The boys wizzed around Bicentennial Park, Sydney Olympic Park and were just 46 seconds off another perfect score. Having dominated the previous two Space Racing events the boys faced some tough competition. Space Racing coaches and NSW juniors, Aidan, Michele, Lawrence and Georgia all raced around the course setting a standard that the younger boys will no doubt challenge in future years.
Liam, Joanna, Rafe and Toby were not far behind as they also registered high scores. With almost 5 minutes spare up their sleeves, Rafe and Toby seem likely to move further up the ladder in future races. Following these front runners, the competition was very tight with a cluster of Space Racers close behind. Considering it was the first event for most of the youngsters, there was some outstanding performances. The skills on display were impressive with competitors all managing their time, planning their routes and navigating their way around the course extremely well. No doubt many of these names are destined to feature strongly in future orienteering results! For full results, click on results or to see who visited which controls click on splits.
Space Racing will be back in the next school holidays, in the interim young Sydney orienteers can try out the Western & Hills newcomer series or get racing in the Sydney Junior Orienteering League.
