A small group of 6 (Chris Murphy UR, Dave Lotty UR, Ron Junghans GO, Angela Murray UR, Robert Spry BN and David West MD) undertook some necessary maintenance at the hut on 18/19 March.
The main operations were cutting a quantity of firewood and mowing the lawns. Other works included cleaning out the fireplace and the storeroom, clearing the gutters and repairs to the front roof. All the workers receive free accommodation at the hut for the next year and designation of FOTH (Friend Of The Hut).
There is some necessary work that still remains but some expertise is required beyond that of the workers present or the equipment/time was not available. Included is
- renewing the curtains in the lounge building (Margaret Wilmott UR is on the job)
- some electrical work (replacement of an outside light fitting, repair of several switches and possible installation of a new stove)
- replacement of the stove (if anyone has a reasonable electric stove they are able to donate please contact the office)
- replacement of a number of (torn) mattress covers (these are being obtained).
We are also looking at upgrading the showers, extending the shelter over the rest of the verandah, installing some more water storage tanks, constructing a path to the toilets and painting the lounge building inside and out. There are also negotiations proceeding with Forests NSW for some work on the access road.
ONSW would be delighted for offers of voluntary assistance from members (or friends) with any of the above activities, whether it be through supply of items or voluntary labour. Contact the ONSW Administration Officer by
