Day 1 Middle distance was cold but dry with the courses set by NSW Stingers young guns Ewan Shingler and Duncan Currie testing competitors and drawing praise.

After a steep walk to the start, courses zig zagged across and down the steep hillside through technical granite terrain.

A stand out (see photos) was 98 year old Herman Werner completing the M95 course, with support from daughter Kirsten.

NSW Stingers WOC team member Alistair George was a strong winner in M21A whilst Canberra's Grace Crane won clearly in W21A.

JWOC bound Stingers Nea Shingler and Erica Enderby quinella'd W20A whilst another Stingers JWOC team member, Sam Woolford, won M20A.

It was also very encouraging to see so many entries in the junior classes.
