Day 2 at Burngoogee was cold with some misty rain.
Course setters for today’s long races were orienteering royalty, Jenny Bourne and Geoff Lawford on behalf of OACT, and their courses were well received, utilising the faster, more open terrain with some classic long legs mixed with shorter technical legs in the scattered granite.
In the elite classes, Nea Shingler, Sam Woolford, and Grace Crane all backed up their day 1 wins with comfortable wins over the longer distances.
Alistair George also went back-to-back but he was chased all the way by Martin Dent, the final margin being just 45 seconds over 11.1 kms.
One of the closest results came in M18 where Oscar Brown pipped Cooper Horley by just 4 seconds after 6.9km.
In M70A, Nick Dent, Bill Jones and Bruce Bowen finished 1, 2, 3 for the second day straight.
There were many other 2-day winners across junior and senior classes, leaving them well placed for overall victory after tomorrow’s Sprint at CSU.
