Space Racing rocketed to success in Dubbo when the first of a new series of Space Races blasted off last Saturday attracting over forty participants. Based on the Space Racing model developed by Bendigo Orienteers, which has also been used with great success in Sydney, fourteen teams of children were given a mission to find all of the space stations hidden around Victoria Park within thirty minutes and then return to base.
Team Pleione (Samantha Wallace and Haylee Burton ) and Team Sirius (Amber Burton and Natalie Roth) were home first, quickly followed by Team Canopus (Sharni Archer and Debbie Archer). All children received a certificate commending their efforts.
After the Space Race, parents were invited to have a go in the Open Sprint set by NSW Schools Squad member, Samantha Wallace. Parents enjoyed having an opportunity to take part and many children couldn’t wait to set off on another adventure. The winner of the Open Sprint was Dale Wallace (9:40), second place went to Karen Hagan (11:04) and third place went to Christine Apps (11:38).
The next Space Race will be held at St John’s College, Sheraton Rd at 8.30am on Saturday 25th February. Check Western Plains website for details here
