The SHOO Saturday Series finished on 11 February with a romp around the Camden Showground. Careful map reading was required to pick out the fastest routes through farming grasslands and the adjacent Equestion Centre, and this time it was Ian Jones and Corinne Fulford who showed the rest how to gather in the points on offer.
The Series winners were announced at a presentation with prizes for the cream of the crop. The Fulford family has had a successful series with Corinne Fulford winning the Women's Score and mother Vivian taking out the Women's Easy course. Dean Williamson was top scorer over the series for the Men's Score, speedy Jai Cooper for the Men's Easy. The Davey family were the best performers in the Family Easy.
This series is rightly growing in popularity, with its friendly atmosphere and maps ideal for family fun. With a 30 minute score and an Easy course for beginners, it caters for a range of orienteers who want to have a run in a relaxed environment. The orienteering community should look forward to next summer's offering from SHOO but in the meantime, their winter programme will provide some quality club bush orienteering.
