Jock Davis of Big Foot led the sessions for 4 days of intensive bush training near Orange over the school holidays. Ian Meyer and Andrew Brown filled out the coaching team, setting the controls and providing additional one on one support to the trainees.
Around 25 people, both juniors and adults attended the long weekend which included runs on maps at Kahli's Rocks, Gumble Pinnacles and Macquarie Woods. Contouring and attack point exercises provided the technical difficulty, with a star relay and control picking activities set to get the blood pumping. For some, it was the first real opportunity to look carefully at how rock is represented outside the heat of competition. The Randazzo-Clarke family from Goldseekers said 'we learnt more in one morning at this training, than we have picked up in a year of competition.'
As well as the orienteering there was plenty of time to have relax and have fun. Jock had organised accommodation at the Scout Camp at Lake Canoblas, a terrific facility with a massive communal kitchen and dining area so everyone could cook and eat together, before gathering around a log fire in the chilly night air.
Many thanks to Jock, Ian and Andrew for a great weekend.
