It was like Tough Mudder at Western Sydney Parklands for the delayed start of our annual MetrO League on Sunday.

The gorgeous 270-degree views from the assembly area and beyond the start hid the trudge that awaited.

All the week's rain plus Saturday's storm made for elephant tracks everywhere and very boggy going underfoot. Add in thigh-high grass, fences that were often hard to spot, and lots of climb and you had a course that tested physically as well as mentally.

Most times were 10-20 minutes slower than usual and it was testimony to the determination of everyone that there was only one mp among the 150-odd competitors. The Garingal Monitors team had four runners within 68 seconds.

It was great to see a team from KNOX back in the comp after an absence of some years. If not for an mp they would have earned a tie. Thanks to WHO and setter Janet Morris for accessing this newish area - the ribbons of rough open area are part of the eventing course used for the Sydney Olympics. The conditions definitely suited the lightweights as well as the mudlarks (Van der Hum v Gold and Black, anyone?).

Results were close too, with three 28-27 matches, a 27-25 and two 29-26s. In the new scoring system in Division 1, Big Foot were clearly first, then Garingal.

A big thanks to WHO. Our next round will be the rescheduled Round 1 at Simmos Beach, Macquarie Fields on May 10. Make mum brekky in bed, then sneak out for a run!
