ONSW will conduct another Purple Pen workshop in Sydney on Sunday March 8.
The workshop, to be held at Sydney Olympic Park from 12-4pm, is free for members.
The workshop is aimed at people who wish to learn how to set courses and print maps and control descriptions using Purple Pen. It is free software with excellent support.
If time permits we will cover some more advanced topics at the end. Parking can be arranged.
Participants are asked to email Jim Mackay (development @ onsw.asn.au) of their intention to attend.
Please note that Purple Pen is a Windows-based program and not all Mac users are able to use the converter program.
Attendees should bring a laptop.
Orienteering relies on controllers to ensure our sport is safe, fair and as enjoyable as possible.
Controllers check the design of courses, control location and mapping; and are responsible for overseeing the organisation of events, in particular ONSW’s safety requirements.
To ensure we keep up to date, and continue to accredit and reaccredit controllers, ONSW will on Saturday May 9 conduct a free full-day workshop for members wishing to attain (or renew) Level 1 and Level 2 qualifications.
For attendees from regional clubs, ONSW will (1) pay travel expenses and (2) find you accommodation.
See the flyer for full details.
There will be a combined ACT & NSW training camp on the weekend of Feb 21-23, based in Belanglo State Forest.
This is being put on by coaches-in-residence Alastair George and Fryderyk Pryjma.
Everyone is welcome to attend. The camp will focus on development of sprint and bush orienteering skills in preparation for the autumn season.
The bush trainings will offer hard and easy courses. Moderate level orienteers are encouraged to challenge themselves on the hard courses.
More details are in the information flyer. Register on Eventor by Sunday 16 February.
The Women's Navigation Skills Weekend is an annual camp for women to build their navigation skills in a supportive environment.
It's for women of all ages who:
* wish to make the jump from street and park events to bush orienteering
* are keen to learn or improve their off-track navigation and orienteering skills
* are experienced in the bush but wish to brush up on some skills or get in some practice before the winter season
Entries for the 2020 weekend, to be held near Lithgow on March 7-8, are now open.
Information is available here. We recommend booking early as this weekend always sells out and generates a lot of interest from women outside orienteering.
It's great networking, great camaraderie and a lot of fun. Thanks to our partner Bold Horizons for putting this on again.
