A reminder to everyone that entries close this week for our first two major events for 2018.
Central Coast are hosting their annual O'Shea 2-Days this weekend, with three runs in 18 hours around the Gosford / Mt Penang area - just an hour north of Sydney. Navigation will be easy to moderate standard.
While this is primarily a pairs event, you can enter solo and ask CC to find you a team-mate. Likewise, you may enter 1 or 2 or all 3 events - via Eventor and by Wednesday (March 7).
Enter-on-Day is available but pre-entry preferred. Cake prizes for the winners!
Our first State League weekend for 2018 is near Canberra on the following weekend (March 17-18) and entries close on Thursday (March 8). Use this link to enter both in one go.
Please note that both events are Long Distance: ACT club Bushflyers are hosting at Collector on the Saturday, and Big Foot at Snow Hills on the Sunday.
ACT and NSW have different course classes for these events. NSW orienteers wishing to earn OY points should choose their age class from the usual options (eg M45AS, M50A). The Red class options are for ACT orienteers only.
Calling all budding coaches - ONSW will be putting on free courses as follows:
Level 0 - Tuesday March 6 at Sydney Olympic Park from 1-4pm. Parking is available at Sports House. This is for people coaching beginners and covers our OK-GO kit used in primary schools.
Level 1 - Sunday April 8 in Newcastle from 9am-4pm. This focuses on the step up to bush navigation.
Please email Jim Mackay (development @ onsw.asn.au) to register your interest in attending.
If you are not already accredited, you will also need to complete the online Coaching General Principles Course.
Our winter bush season starts rolling out this Sunday when SHOO put on the first of their monthly Highlands Forest Series events, at Belanglo State Forest.
The opening event is on The Piggery map, last used at the Xmas 5-Days, and coincides with our Women's Nav Skills Weekend.
Courses will be set to cater for all levels of ability and there will be someone on hand to help those new to running around the forest. The start window is 11am-12pm.
SHOO have steadily grown their Summer Saturday series and the Forest series piggy-backs onto that nicely.
It means orienteers in the greater Sydney basin have 3 quality events per month over winter: State League, MetrO League and the Highlands Forest series.
The 2018 schedule is:
Mar 4 - Belanglo SF
Apr 29 - Belanglo SF
May 20 - Mt Alexandra Reserve
Jul 15 - Soapy Flat
Aug 12 - Boxvale Tramway
Sep 16 - Tahmoor
For further details, see the series flyer and Eventor.
