Young Orienteer Recognised as 2023 Rookie of the Year
Jessica Dun joined the Hastings Orienteering Group as a junior in 2022 and by the end of 2023 was W14A Orienteer of the Year.
Jessica’s achievements at the 2023 Australian Schools Orienteering Champs were exceptional for a first-time team member. She was 5th in the Long Distance and ran a brilliant relay leg as 2nd leg. These two races were both huge contributions to the NSW overall win. She also finished 7th in the Australian Middle Champs, 12th in the Australian Long Champs, 12th in the Australian Sprint Champs and ran with boys in the M14 Aust Champs relay.
Her solid performance at the national level followed on from her success as W14A 2023 NSW Long and Middle Champions.

Peter McConaghy (Garingal Orienteers) has been awarded the 2023 ONSW Volunteer of the Year Award in recognition of his years of invaluable service to orienteering through the production of maps and other orienteering materials.
Peter ensures quality printing and timely delivery in a tireless, kind, efficient and obliging manner, even in the face of difficult circumstances.
Throughout the year he invests considerable personal time weekly, and also invests personal finances which benefit orienteering well beyond the modest return he receives to his business.
His is a critical and highly valuable role which goes unseen and unheralded by most competitors.
