The Coaches Course scheduled for next weekend (16th and 17th October) has been postponed until February 2011. This decision is due to the small number of people who expressed an interest in attending. Rescheduling the Course for early next year may result in more participants.

It is also my plan to have a Coaching weekend for young orienteers 12/13/14 years who are progressing from Green(easy) to Orange(moderate) navigation at the same time as the Level 1 Coaching weekend. Tentative Dates 19th/20th February 2011. To be confirmed.

Nick Dent, Coaching Director OANSW

The proposed program for the weekend can be found here.

A coaching and training camp is planned for the weekend of the 19th and 20th of February from 8.30am Saturday to 3.00pm Sunday. The camp will be held at Belanglo State Forest and the Belanglo Hut.

This weekend will be of interest to any orienteer wishing to become a coach and progress towards gaining Level 1 coaching qualifications as well as any current coach wanting to help with the weekends activities and further develop their own existing coaching qualifications. The activities will teach the technical skills required to move from very easy (blue) courses to easy (green) courses and to moderate (orange) courses.

The coaching and training sessions will be run concurrently and will involve both theorectical and practical sessions. All particicpant will need to have writing equipment and orienteering equipment, including an SI stick.

Some accommodation is available in the Hut and of course camping is available with toilets, showers and cooking facilities (you must provide your own food). A dinner is planned for Saturday evening (details later).
