Welcome to Orienteering NSW

Orienteering is a sport that challenges both the body and the mind. It's also loads of fun!

The aim is to use a special orienteering map to navigate your way around a course and visit marked check points along the way. You choose a course that suits your age and experience and proceed at your own pace: walk, jog or run. It is a race but you decide if you want to just race yourself or be the next world champion! The course may take you through urban areas, parks, schools, farmland or forests.

Events are conducted weekly across NSW and beginners are welcome at all events.

Want to enter an event? You can see what's on by looking at the Coming Events at left or by going to the Event Calendar. Some events are enter on the day - you just turn up and register at the start. Other events require pre-entry and for that you need to know about (and register with) Eventor - read the Eventor FAQ.

Toby, Georgia selected in JWOC team

Garingal's Tony Wilson has been named in the Australian team for the junior world championships in Finland, and Uringa's Georgia Jones has been picked as a reserve.

Toby has been on the fringe of "JWOC" selection for more than 12 months now and his impressive results in the National League - including a breakthrough win on the notoriously difficult Pittwater Dunes in Hobart last month and solid performances in New Zealand at Easter - sealed his place.

"I'm excited for this opportunity to get overseas experience," he said.

"I took this semester off Uni partly to concentrate on JWOC and I was pretty confident after the first few NOL races, but it's still a relief to see your name on the list."

Georgia has consistently placed in the top 7 or 8 in junior NOL races this year and will no doubt push strongly for full selection next year.

"It was a really strong field competing for places on the team, and I've gotten where I am because of all the work my coach Paula Shingler has put in," she said.

"Although I'm disappointed to not get on the travelling team, it was good to be picked as reserve. I had a solid set of races in New Zealand which is a good preparation for the racing I'll be doing in Europe later this year and my nomination for the 2018 JWOC team."

The Orienteering NSW community congratulates these two fine ambassadors for our sport, and their Australian team-mates.

The championships in Finland run from July 9-16 and the event website is here.
