SAFEGUARDING CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE

Orienteering NSW (ONSW) is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of Children and Young People in orienteering by providing a safe and inclusive environment and by ensuring that everyone involved in orienteering is aware of their rights and responsibilities in relation to Children and Young People.

All our members and participants have an obligation to protect and maintain the integrity of our sport, as well as the health and well-being of all people who participate. ONSW has a zero-tolerance policy to harm, abuse and/or neglect of a Child or Young Person in any form.  All Children and Young People have the right to feel safe and protected from all forms of abuse, harm, and neglect, and have the right to take part in sport in a safe, positive, and enjoyable environment.

ONSW has in place several policies to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all children and young people participating in our sport. These policies are available from the ONSW Manual webpage at https://onsw.asn.au/resources/onsw-manual and include:

  1. 10 ONSW Safeguarding Children and Young People Policy;
  2. 11 ONSW Code of Conduct;
  3. 14 ONSW Complaints Disputes and Discipline Policy.

In addition, Orienteering Australia (OA) is a signatory to the National Integrity Framework (NIF). This is a suite of integrity policies developed by Sport Integrity Australia (SIA) and includes an independent complaint handling process. The OA NIF policies can be found within the ONSW Manual and also at https://orienteering.asn.au/integrity/ and include:

  1. OA Member Protection Policy (as ONSW Manual 0.2);
  2. OA Improper Use of Drugs and Medicine Policy (as ONSW Manual 0.3);
  3. OA Competition Manipulation and Sports Wagering Policy (as ONSW Manual 0.4);
  4. OA Complaints Disputes and Discipline Policy (as ONSW Manual 0.6);
  5. OA Anti-Doping Policy (as ONSW Manual 0.5), including IOF Anti-Doping Policy (as ONSW Manual 0.51); and
