Welcome to Orienteering NSW

Orienteering is a sport that challenges both the body and the mind. It's also loads of fun!

The aim is to use a special orienteering map to navigate your way around a course and visit marked check points along the way. You choose a course that suits your age and experience and proceed at your own pace: walk, jog or run. It is a race but you decide if you want to just race yourself or be the next world champion! The course may take you through urban areas, parks, schools, farmland or forests.

Events are conducted weekly across NSW and beginners are welcome at all events.

Want to enter an event? You can see what's on by looking at the Coming Events at left or by going to the Event Calendar. Some events are enter on the day - you just turn up and register at the start. Other events require pre-entry and for that you need to know about (and register with) Eventor - read the Eventor FAQ.

Lucy Mackie, Junghans take out major OA awards

Big Foot teenager Lucy Mackie has been named Orienteering Australia's athlete of the year for her stunning performances at the last year's MTBO world championships.

Lucy, pictured far left, won silver in the Middle Distance and was 7th in the Long in Lithuania, serving notice to the Europeans of her prowess. Her award was announced at the recent Easter carnival in Tasmania.

Congratulations also go to Garingal couple Ron and Barbara Junghans, who won the Silva Award for Services to Orienteering. The Sydneysiders have been at the heart of all things O for close on 40 years. This lifelong dedication culminated in Barbara organising last year's Australian championships at Bathurst and Hill End.

The Junghans also took out the ONSW President's Award in 2017.

The Silva Award for Services to Coaching went to Queensland's Wendy Read. Wendy has served as National Senior Coach/Manager for Australia and has taken the team to WOC many times. She has also been Bushrangers Coach, and at Qld level she managed the Cyclones for many year. Congratulations Wendy on a well-deserved award.

Bob Mouatt won the David Hogg Medal for Services to Event Management.
