Welcome to Orienteering NSW

Orienteering is a sport that challenges both the body and the mind. It's also loads of fun!

The aim is to use a special orienteering map to navigate your way around a course and visit marked check points along the way. You choose a course that suits your age and experience and proceed at your own pace: walk, jog or run. It is a race but you decide if you want to just race yourself or be the next world champion! The course may take you through urban areas, parks, schools, farmland or forests.

Events are conducted weekly across NSW and beginners are welcome at all events.

New to orienteering? Click here for more information.

Want to enter an event? You can see what's on by looking at the Coming Events at left or by going to the Event Calendar. Some events are enter on the day - you just turn up and register at the start. Other events require pre-entry and for that you need to know about (and register with) Eventor - read the Eventor FAQ.

Shinglers, Dawsons dominate Big Foot Sprints

Michele Dawson and Ewan Shingler took out the annual Big Foot Sprints on Sunday in an excellent preparation for the Xmas 5-Days carnival in Sydney.

Big Foot borrowed Garingal's Macquarie Hospital map, and Scottish coach in residence Grace Molloy set the courses which feature a chasing start for the second run.

Ewan's victory in the men's division put the host club back on the honour board for the first time in five years. He pipped clubmate and fellow junior Alastair George by 13 seconds over the two legs, having led by five seconds after the first race.

Adding lustre to the boys' quinella was the fact they ran in the club's retro gear (see pic, no doubt handed down by parents!).

Last year's winner, Aidan Dawson from Garingal, finished third, 44 seconds back.

But his older sister Michele kept the family name and GO on the event's list of champions with a comfortable 47-second win over Nea Shingler - Ewan's 13-year-old sister showing some serious pedigree.

Making it a family day out, mum Paula Shingler was third woman home, 11 seconds shy of Nea.

Overall result are here. Thanks Grace, thanks BF.
