Welcome to Orienteering NSW

Orienteering is a sport that challenges both the body and the mind. It's also loads of fun!

The aim is to use a special orienteering map to navigate your way around a course and visit marked check points along the way. You choose a course that suits your age and experience and proceed at your own pace: walk, jog or run. It is a race but you decide if you want to just race yourself or be the next world champion! The course may take you through urban areas, parks, schools, farmland or forests.

Events are conducted weekly across NSW and beginners are welcome at all events.

New to orienteering? Click here for more information.

Want to enter an event? You can see what's on by looking at the Coming Events at left or by going to the Event Calendar. Some events are enter on the day - you just turn up and register at the start. Other events require pre-entry and for that you need to know about (and register with) Eventor - read the Eventor FAQ.

Entries open for 2022 major national events

Entries have opened for a number of big interstate events that traditionally attract good support from NSW orienteers.

The ACT Wildfire Sports Autumn Classics (Apr 2-3) - this is the first bush National League weekend for 2022 near Bungendore. Bulletin 1 has been published. We thank Wildfire Sports for their sponsorship of the NOL.

This year NOLs will have a senior and junior elite class and a sport class. The sport class is designed for competitive orienteers who may have other priorities than just the goal of elite racing on the international level.

Easter (Apr 15-18) - expect fantastic granite terrain around Kingaroy, 3 hours NW of Brisbane. This will also be the junior world champs selection trial. Bulletin 1 has been published.

Gold Coast Sprint Weekend (Apr 21-24) - extend your Easter stay with some short, fast runs on the complex sand dunes and local campuses. Five fantastic events, including three brand new maps, an updated university map and an updated treasure. Details in the Easter link above.

The IOF have confirmed that the WRE Sprint Final and Elite Knockout will be Oceania Championships, with associated automatic qualification places for the 2022 world championships in Denmark.

The Australian Championships (Sep 24-Oct 2) - near Castlemaine in Victoria. On offer are four gold-mining and two granite areas, two super cool sprint terrains with almost all on totally new terrains.

Melbourne Sprint Weekend (Mar 12-14) - Australia's premier short-form carnival with six events over three days. Race locations have been published and entries will open soon.
