Welcome to Orienteering NSW

Orienteering is a sport that challenges both the body and the mind. It's also loads of fun!

The aim is to use a special orienteering map to navigate your way around a course and visit marked check points along the way. You choose a course that suits your age and experience and proceed at your own pace: walk, jog or run. It is a race but you decide if you want to just race yourself or be the next world champion! The course may take you through urban areas, parks, schools, farmland or forests.

Events are conducted weekly across NSW and beginners are welcome at all events.

New to orienteering? Click here for more information.

Want to enter an event? You can see what's on by looking at the Coming Events at left or by going to the Event Calendar. Some events are enter on the day - you just turn up and register at the start. Other events require pre-entry and for that you need to know about (and register with) Eventor - read the Eventor FAQ.

Australian Orienteering Championships 2024

This carnival of events will comprise seven events -

Australian Long, Middle, Sprint and Relay Championships and

Australian Schools Sprint, Long and Relay Championships.

Armidale will be the host city for these events and the dates will be Sat 28th Sept - Sun 6th Oct.

The carnival will be organized on behalf of ONSW by Ron Pallas and Nick Dent who have been appointed by ONSW as the Managers.

We are in the process of putting together organizational teams. All orienteers will have the opportunity of volunteering to be part of these teams.

Technical Team

Course setters and Controllers - Expression of Interest (EOI)

Any orienteer who is interested in being a course setter or controller for any of the seven events that will be held during this carnival is asked to make an EOI.

We are planning on putting together a team of controllers and course setters who will work together to produce quality courses that meet the technical requirements of each discipline.

Each member of this team will need to be able to follow timelines and participate in preliminary arena planning.

Members of the team will need to be available for a planning weekend in early 2023 (date TBC) and a follow up in early to mid 2024.

If you are interested in either a course setting role or being a controller please send an EOI to

Nick Dent   email    This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.          Due by 30th July 2022

Please indicate

  1. Course setter or Controller.
  2. Which event(s) is your preference?
  3. If Controller-what is your current approved Controller level.
  4. Brief summary of your experience as either Course setter or Controller.
