Welcome to Orienteering NSW

Orienteering is a sport that challenges both the body and the mind. It's also loads of fun!

The aim is to use a special orienteering map to navigate your way around a course and visit marked check points along the way. You choose a course that suits your age and experience and proceed at your own pace: walk, jog or run. It is a race but you decide if you want to just race yourself or be the next world champion! The course may take you through urban areas, parks, schools, farmland or forests.

Events are conducted weekly across NSW and beginners are welcome at all events.

Want to enter an event? You can see what's on by looking at the Coming Events at left or by going to the Event Calendar. Some events are enter on the day - you just turn up and register at the start. Other events require pre-entry and for that you need to know about (and register with) Eventor - read the Eventor FAQ.

2022 Hunter Schools Championships

It was great to finally be able to hold the Hunter Schools Championships after a few years off last Tuesday, 9th August. We were lucky with the weather, with forecast rain staying away and the competitors, parents and helpers able to enjoy a pleasant day in the forest, even if most people went home with quite muddy shoes.
Competition was fierce between the established orienteers, who ran quick times on the line course and backed up to return well before the time limit on the score course. Congratulations to individual champions Erika Enderby and Alvin Craig, and champion school Merewether High.
The performance of several less experienced orienteers was also quite pleasing, showing their development is progressing well. Another positive from the day was the participation of the novices from a number of schools. Although some struggled with the navigation on the line course, all were eager to go back out and try again on the score course and enjoyed their introduction to orienteering so much they vowed to return next year!
Thank you to our club volunteers who made the day possible.
