Welcome to Orienteering NSW

Orienteering is a sport that challenges both the body and the mind. It's also loads of fun!

The aim is to use a special orienteering map to navigate your way around a course and visit marked check points along the way. You choose a course that suits your age and experience and proceed at your own pace: walk, jog or run. It is a race but you decide if you want to just race yourself or be the next world champion! The course may take you through urban areas, parks, schools, farmland or forests.

Events are conducted weekly across NSW and beginners are welcome at all events.

Want to enter an event? You can see what's on by looking at the Coming Events at left or by going to the Event Calendar. Some events are enter on the day - you just turn up and register at the start. Other events require pre-entry and for that you need to know about (and register with) Eventor - read the Eventor FAQ.

Vale Tim Hackney

It is with a heavy heart that we share the news of the departure of our esteemed club member, Tim Hackney.
Tim passed away in the comfort of his home this morning, surrounded by the love and warmth of his family. He has found serenity and rest.
Tim’s memory will live on not just through his warm, welcoming presence and his playful wit, but also through his significant contributions to our club. A passionate proponent of Mountain Bike Orienteering (MTBO), Tim dedicated himself to various roles, championing this aspect of our sport with vigor, including overseeing the BOSS events. His collaborative efforts, particularly with his close friend Greg Bacon, were instrumental in the seamless execution of events at the local, state, and national levels.
Our thoughts are with Andrea and her family during this sorrowful time. We extend our deepest sympathies and hope Andrea forgives me for the use of this irreverent photograph in this announcement, as it captures the essence of Tim's spirited humor.
Tim’s family warmly invites his friends to join in celebrating his life. Instead of flowers, they suggest making a donation to the Calvary Mater Palliative Care in Waratah.
A service to honor Tim’s life will be conducted:
Location: Pettigrew Family Funerals, 7 Murray Dwyer Circuit, Mayfield West
Date & Time: Friday, June 7th at 5 p.m.
For those unable to attend in person, the service will be accessible for live streaming or on-demand viewing at Pettigrew.com.au.
Please navigate to ‘upcoming services,’ select Tim’s service, and opt to ‘watch this service.’ The service is expected to be available for approximately three weeks.
