Welcome to Orienteering NSW

Orienteering is a sport that challenges both the body and the mind. It's also loads of fun!

The aim is to use a special orienteering map to navigate your way around a course and visit marked check points along the way. You choose a course that suits your age and experience and proceed at your own pace: walk, jog or run. It is a race but you decide if you want to just race yourself or be the next world champion! The course may take you through urban areas, parks, schools, farmland or forests.

Events are conducted weekly across NSW and beginners are welcome at all events.

New to orienteering? Click here for more information.

Want to enter an event? You can see what's on by looking at the Coming Events at left or by going to the Event Calendar. Some events are enter on the day - you just turn up and register at the start. Other events require pre-entry and for that you need to know about (and register with) Eventor - read the Eventor FAQ.

AOC 2024 TEAM THANK YOU

 AOC 2024 TEAM THANK YOU

This is a public recognition of the contribution all the volunteers who made up the wonderful AOC 2024 team.

Way back in 2018 we developed a Vision that this carnival would be organised by a team of orienteers who were willing to volunteer their time to be part of the AOC 2024 Team.

That Vision was to provide orienteers from all over Australia and overseas with an experience that had three components - Great Maps, Great Courses, Great Arenas.

The AOC 2024 Team was made up of well over 60 volunteers from all clubs in NSW and some from interstate.

Ron and I would like to thank you all for your contribution to the Team and share with you some of the comments we have received from competitors and spectators.

“What a weekend. Huge thanks from me, and I suspect from everyone. Great organisation, great terrain - and even pretty nice running weather. So many superlatives. And geez, what a map!! The big one I mean. All areas were outstanding, and all events challenging.” Rosscoe

“Wow!! What a fantastic carnival. I just wanted to thank you, and your huge and wonderful team, for a truly memorable week. From my point of view everything just went perfectly. I know that this can only happen when a vast amount of work has gone into the preparation. All the little details just made it great. For example, the different colours for each day which made finding the day in the Bulletin an absolute breeze - and then those carried through to the medal ribbons. Just fantastic attention to detail.” Mary McDonald

“Thank you to everyone in your team for all of the work you put into making the Aust Champs Carnival so successful. Having just finished organising the Qld Long Distance Championships, I can appreciate how much time and effort went into all of the components of the Carnival and managing such a big team of volunteers.” Liz Bourne

“It was great to be able to watch the events unfold via the Living it Live stream on Youtube, and the I appreciated the diversity of the coverage in terms of commentators, interviews, follow-cams, GPS tracking, etc. I understand the extensive volunteer effort to deliver events of this nature, so thank you very much for making it happen.” Jonathan Hunt (NZ)

"Thank you to the whole team from the Hawkes Bay NZ crew." Alistair Nicole

"Thank you. The kids had a ball." Ken Mansell
