Welcome to Orienteering NSW

Orienteering is a sport that challenges both the body and the mind. It's also loads of fun!

The aim is to use a special orienteering map to navigate your way around a course and visit marked check points along the way. You choose a course that suits your age and experience and proceed at your own pace: walk, jog or run. It is a race but you decide if you want to just race yourself or be the next world champion! The course may take you through urban areas, parks, schools, farmland or forests.

Events are conducted weekly across NSW and beginners are welcome at all events.

Want to enter an event? You can see what's on by looking at the Coming Events at left or by going to the Event Calendar. Some events are enter on the day - you just turn up and register at the start. Other events require pre-entry and for that you need to know about (and register with) Eventor - read the Eventor FAQ.

Hawkemount DuO entries close this Thursday

Entries close for the first of the new DuO Series this Thursday 1 November.  With over 80 entries to date, the Hawkemount (Awaba) DuO is shaping up to be a great start to the series.  Initially the entries were from newcomers but there has been a surge in OANSW members over the last few days. There is a good mix of competitors over all the courses with several Taster teams with parents and children entered.  If you enter the Bitte (Short ) course you can join in for free with your children to tackle the Taster course. More details on the whole event are available here.

The start area at Awaba Primary School is around 1.5 hours drive from Sydney.  This time there are two foot stages and two MTB stages with a few variations thrown in -competitors can expect to be out for around two hours. While Denis Lyons from the Newcastle Club was mapping the area for the State Champs next year, he decided the area needed a few extra maps for the DuO as well. This event will be different!

Stay around for the BBQ starting from around 11.00am and don't forget that each entry goes into the draw for the Trek Cobia 29er.

Entries have also started coming in for the Bluegum Hills event on 2nd Dec but after that the series goes into hibernation untill March next year. Don't miss out - enter here!
