Welcome to Orienteering NSW

Orienteering is a sport that challenges both the body and the mind. It's also loads of fun!

The aim is to use a special orienteering map to navigate your way around a course and visit marked check points along the way. You choose a course that suits your age and experience and proceed at your own pace: walk, jog or run. It is a race but you decide if you want to just race yourself or be the next world champion! The course may take you through urban areas, parks, schools, farmland or forests.

Events are conducted weekly across NSW and beginners are welcome at all events.

New to orienteering? Click here for more information.

Want to enter an event? You can see what's on by looking at the Coming Events at left or by going to the Event Calendar. Some events are enter on the day - you just turn up and register at the start. Other events require pre-entry and for that you need to know about (and register with) Eventor - read the Eventor FAQ.

Aidan, Nicola Stingers of the month

The Stinger of the month for June is.... Aidan Dawson.

Aidan, 17, is in year 11 and has his sights firmly on following older sister Michele to JWOC. He comfortably took out M18A at the QBIII and his three most recent NOL junior mens events (at Canberra in May) have been his highest scoring races of the year.

"I've doing a lot more fitness training this year, so as I'm getting fitter I find I'm making fewer mental mistakes," said the NOL rookie, who appears on the cover of our 2013 Winter Booklet.

Aidan was also commended for abandoning his course at Macquarie Uni in July to help Garingal colleague Jim Merchant who had fallen and cut his head.

And you can always find Aidan in the catering tent at State League events... helping fundraise to support the NSW junior squad.

The Stinger of the month for July is... Nicola Blatchford.

Nicola (Newcastle) made her JWOC debut in July and performed creditably in a very tough field of experienced Scandinavians and other highly-fancied Europeans.

She is the highest placed NSW runner in the junior women's section of the NOL and has two second placings this year - one of them being the chasing start on the last day at Easter in Bendigo.

Look out for Nicola on the cover of our 2013-14 summer booklet!

We wish both our talented winners here the best of luck with their training and racing. They each win an Endura pack – nutrition for elite athletes to help them train harder, race faster and recover quicker.
