Learn to Orienteer - Port Macquarie

Welcome to Orienteering NSW

Orienteering is a sport that challenges both the body and the mind. It's also loads of fun!

The aim is to use a special orienteering map to navigate your way around a course and visit marked check points along the way. You choose a course that suits your age and experience and proceed at your own pace: walk, jog or run. It is a race but you decide if you want to just race yourself or be the next world champion! The course may take you through urban areas, parks, schools, farmland or forests.

Events are conducted weekly across NSW and beginners are welcome at all events.

New to orienteering? Click here for more information.

Want to enter an event? You can see what's on by looking at the Coming Events at left or by going to the Event Calendar. Some events are enter on the day - you just turn up and register at the start. Other events require pre-entry and for that you need to know about (and register with) Eventor - read the Eventor FAQ.

ONSW farewells Anthony Darr

The NSW orienteering community wishes Admin Officer Anthony Darr all the best as he prepares for a new life in Hobart.

Anthony's wife Kylie works for the Uni of Tasmania and has accepted a two-year secondment to work on the Apple Isle.

Having taken up the Admin Officer position in November 2010, Anthony has been the go-to person for most matters concerning ONSW's organisation especially over the last 12 months with the implementation of the Eventor events calendar and pre-entry system, and more recently with the switch to the Eventor membership module. Over the years most event organisers will have had cause to thank Anthony for assisting them in obtaining the growing list of items (SPORTident units, computers and related equipment etc etc), which as many will know is not easy to keep track of.

"As ONSW President I would also like to personally thank Anthony for his support and for the input he provided," said Paul Prudhoe.

Anthony, a member of Big Foot, took up orienteering in Newcastle many years ago and recently returned to action in the Sydney Summer Series and sprints after considerable time in MTBO.

In late 2010 he took over as Admin Officer upon the retirement of life member Dave Lotty (who previously held the role for 38 years) and has led the ONSW 'shopfront' through a time of great change and tremendous growth in all aspects of the operation.

Anthony finishes up this Wednesday (Feb 5). We wish him and Kylie a happy time in Tasmania.

As a result of Anthony's departure,
