Nicola Blatchford (Newcastle) and Michele Dawson (Garingal) have both been selected for the Australian team to compete at JWOC 2013 in the Czech Republic. This will be Michele's second trip to Europe to compete in this competition, and she is hoping to improve on last year's solid opening performance. Nicola will be on the team for the first time, having missed out due to injury last year. It is a tremendous achievement to have two young elites from NSW on the JWOC team and is testament to their hard work and the support of their managers and coaches.

NSW had much to celebrate at the Easter Carnival held in Bendigo but the top spots were hard won over the holiday weekend, with challenging terrain and fierce competition. Nearly 750 competitors from all over Australia attended the carnival and some of the age classes were the largest we have seen for some time, outside the Australian and Oceania Championships.
Topping the podium over the whole carnival for NSW was Phoebe Dent (W21A), Lynn Dabbs (W60A), Jean Baldwin (W70A), Janet Morris (W75A), Glenn Meyer (M21AS), Cath Chalmers (W35AS) and Peter Baldwin (M35AS). Other notable successes were Mikayla Enderby (W10A), Sophie Jones (W12A), Val Hodsdon (W65A), Eoin Rothery (M55A), Gordon Wilson (M60A), Ron Junghans (M70A), Vicki Wilmott (W45AS), Shane Jenkins (M35AS), Greg Barbour (M40A), Gayle Quantock (W50A), Nicki Burnett (W Easy B), Douglas Jay (M35A), and Ian Jessup (M Open B) who all narrowly missed out on the top spot, coming second in their classes

NSW Sports Minister Graham Annesley presents Series Cup at the Sydney Summer Series

NSW Sports Minister Graham Annesley was on hand at the Sydney Summer Series final last Wednesday to present Westleigh resident Karin Hefftner with the Series Cup for 2012-13. Karin had a phenomenal set of races during the series, winning 23 events and scoring the most points of any competitor over the 27-week season.
Mr Annesley said: “Congratulations to Karin on her fantastic performance. Orienteering is about getting people out exercising for enjoyment firstly, and competition for those who desire it. Membership is growing and it’s great to see young kids and older folks mixing it with the elite athletes of the sport.”
Karin and her husband Larry Weiss arrived from South Africa in 1996. When a work colleague raved about the Summer Series event she had been to, Karin gave it a go the following week. "I thought this is a sport that sounds interesting and like fun," she recalled. "I haven’t looked back."
Full series results can be found here.
