River and Bay Orienteering Series

Season 13 - Sunday afternoons, October to December 2023

Now called the River and Bay Orienteering Series, this springtime series showcases the wonderful parks, reserves and bushland of Botany Bay and the Cooks River Valley

It mixes exercise - at whatever pace you like (walk, jog or run) - with a simple navigational challenge.

If you can read a street directory you can do it! It's a great way to explore your local area, or any suburb! You can go solo, with a buddy or in a small group (friends, family, scouts or guides). Beginners are most welcome and will receive basic instruction.

Start times: you may start any time between 4pm-5pm. All events will suit newcomers as well as experienced orienteers. Please ensure you return by 6pm as we start packing up then.

Format: you have the choice of 4 courses:
(a) a SCORE course. You have 45 minutes to get to as many of the checkpoints (called controls) as you can, in any order. The controls are worth different amounts, and you may plan your route before starting. It will be 7-8km to get them all.
(b) a 6km LINE course with multiple road crossings. You must visit the controls in order.
(c) a 4km LINE course with a few crossings of minor roads.
(c) a 2km LINE course with NO street crossing - ideal for kids, or for adults seeking a short activity.

SportIdent electronic timing will be used at all events.

Cost: * denotes fee includes timing stick hire. Special rates apply for families and groups. See the organiser for details.
