Has there been a more dramatic round in Metro League than at Lapstone on Sunday?
Not in our collective memory, as Big Foot's Darks Common map produced heartbreak for some and held out hope for others. In Division 1, Garingal needed a draw or better against defending champs WHO-UR to win the title with a round to spare. Even with JWOC star Cooper Horley bagging his usual 10 points, the Goannas scraped home 29-26 to take out the title with a round to spare - against the strong Big Foot side on the tough Mitchell Park map in a fortnight.
In Division 4, SHOO won 4 matches out of 5 but missed the final on "goal difference"; leaving GO Monitors and Bennelong to fight for the trophy. It was even closer in Division 5, where three teams finished with a 3-2 record. GO Blue Tongues' superior goal difference put them into the final. SHOO pipped WHO 28-27 to make it a three-way tie on points AND on goal difference with WHO - so it came down to "points for" where WHO snuck in (139-135).
WHO amazingly have 4 teams in the running for trophies, reaping the rewards for investing in youth.

Garingal and Bennelong have collaborated to put on a coaching walkthrough after the Mitchell Park event on the 31st August.
The walkthrough will take place directly after the last competitor finishes. The coach will walk through controls and legs from the event discussion route choices and navigation, comparing maps with actual terrain. This has proven to be a very effective way to improve orienteering skills. People are encouraged to enter as places are limited for the walkthrough.
