Welcome to Orienteering NSW

Orienteering is a sport that challenges both the body and the mind. It's also loads of fun!

The aim is to use a special orienteering map to navigate your way around a course and visit marked check points along the way. You choose a course that suits your age and experience and proceed at your own pace: walk, jog or run. It is a race but you decide if you want to just race yourself or be the next world champion! The course may take you through urban areas, parks, schools, farmland or forests.

Events are conducted weekly across NSW and beginners are welcome at all events.

New to orienteering? Click here for more information.

Want to enter an event? You can see what's on by looking at the Coming Events at left or by going to the Event Calendar. Some events are enter on the day - you just turn up and register at the start. Other events require pre-entry and for that you need to know about (and register with) Eventor - read the Eventor FAQ.

Victoria 2023 MTBO championships

Victoria MTBO championships which was also the 1st round of the National MTBO series were held in the country town of Castlemaine in the Goldfields region.

A small contingent of MTBO riders represented NSW Orienteering:

Michael Halmy - Bennelong  orienteering , Robert Lewin - Newcastle  orienteering, Robert Vincent - Newcastle orienteering, Robert Prentice - Newcastle orienteering, Ori Gudes - Uringa orienteering and Andrew Power - Newcastle.

The weather was fantastic as well as the maps and the atmosphere. The placegetters were:

Sprint distance: The sprint distance was quite successful for our MTBOers, with Newcastle’s riders Robert Vincent winning the race and Robert Prentice coming well in 3rd (M60).

Uringa MTBOer  Ori Gudes coming happy at 3rd (M40) with a clean navigation ride.

Middle distance:

The complex middle distance saw a good performance by the Newcastle MTBOers with Andrew Power coming 2nd (M60), Robert Vincent 3rd (M60), and Robert Lewin 3d in (M70).

Uringa's rider Ori Gudes was consistent at 3rd (M40) despite having a mechanic issue.

Long distance:

Newcastle MTBO racer Andrew Power won the prestigious long-distance category (M60) and was the only NSW placegetter that day.

Well done to all the MTBOers who made the trip and see you at the NSW MTBO championship in September 2023.
