2023 President’s Award:
Jenny and Damien Enderby (NC)
Jenny and Damien Enderby have been recognised for their commitment to the NSW Schools Orienteering Team 2019-2022 as the Carbine’s team managers (both) and assistant coach (Jenny). They are also long and substantial supporters of orienteering in NSW, particularly in the Newcastle area. They are coaches, promoters of the sport and well-known competitors in Foot-O and MTBO, demonstrating how orienteering is a sport for all ages.
2023 President’s Junior Award:
Cooper Horley (GO)
Cooper Horley has been awarded the President’s Junior Award for his efforts in competition and training since discovering orienteering in 2018 at age 11. With just five years in orienteering, his achievements demonstrate commitment to the sport as an individual and as a team member. He contributes to the development of junior orienteers by sharing his research on orienteering settings and by providing running wild courses for junior training experiences and has contributed to other activities of the 2023 junior squad. In 2023 he placed at the men’s elite level nationally, contributed to the NSW Schools Team success at the Australian Championships, and achieved at a high level internationally (JWOC, Oceania).
[For those wondering why Cooper is pictured wearing a WA Schools Team running shirt: it is a tradition to exchange team shirts as part of the camaraderie of the competition. These shirts are subsequently worn proudly at events. If you see an NSW orienteer wearing such a shirt, ask about the story behind it!]

These awards are decided by the ONSW President. Each year nominations for all ONSW’s annual awards are invited from Association members; nominations for the President’s awards are welcomed as they give the President wider information about what members are contributing to orienteering across NSW.

1 Available in Eventor on 1st December of the preceding year thereby offering new members a 13-month membership.
2 Remote Clubs are Bush ‘n’ Beach, Hastings Orienteering Group, Northern Tablelands, Goldseekers, and Wagga and Riverina (ref ONSW Manual 3.4).
Members receive discounted entry fees, a subscription to the quarterly Australian Orienteer magazine (opt-in for hard copy is still available) and a range of other benefits - not to mention the collegiality of being a member of a club. Current members must renew by December 31st or Eventor will add the non-member levy to each 2024 event entry fee.

50 Years of Orienteering – Inaugural Recognition

Orienteering NSW congratulates thirteen members for their 50 years (or more) of involvement in the sport of orienteering as of 2023.
These current ONSW members are recognised for their participation at any level as a competitor and/or official and/or organiser and/or mapper and/or course setter.
They have also been substantially resident in NSW over the period.
Certificates will be presented to these honourees during the Christmas 5-Days, or at a suitable opportunity in the new year.
Various strategies were used to identify current ONSW members who met the criteria for recognition.
This list may well be incomplete – if you think you should have been included, please contact your club.

Orienteering NSW Office Closure
Closure of the office over the Christmas holidays - Friday 22nd Dec to Monday 8th Jan 2024.
