New Central Coast winter series about to start

Central Coast are starting a monthly winter series aimed at people who do summer orienteering and encouraging them to try Easy bush courses.
The first event is on Sunday May 9 at Hylton Moore Park in East Gosford. First-timers get free entry.
At each event there will be a brief coaching session at 9.30am, then starts from 10am.
Courses are 2km and 4km in length.
Each event will build on skills learnt the previous time.

It's getting close to NOSH season

The Great NOSH Footrace is one of Sydney's most iconic trail runs, with superb views of Middle Harbour and gorgeous greenery.
The course winds 16km (or 22km for those seeking a longer run) from Lindfield Oval to Seaforth Oval, with 570m of climb.
This year it's on Sunday June 6. Standard entries close on Friday (April 30).
Pre-enter by Saturday May 22 to:
* receive pre-printed, personalised race bibs
* have the opportunity to book on either a 8:30am or 12:45pm event bus from Seaforth to Lindfield. Bus tickets are $20 per person. Runners and walkers on the 8:30am bus will be able to register and collect their race bibs on the bus.
Orienteering NSW members receive a 10% discount if entering before 23 May. Running clubs with more than 10 runners registering for the event are also invited to contact the Race Manager to pre-arrange an event discount.
You can enter on the day at a premium, provided there are spaces still available (there is a limit of 600 entries).

SOS expands into Newcastle

Our popular Saturday Orienteering Series is expanding into Newcastle!
This weekend the SOS resumes for Term 2, with the choice of three locations:
* Callaghan Senior College in Jesmond (Newcastle)
* Samuel Gilbert Public School (Hills District, Sydney)
* South Turramurra, most likely Kissing Point Village Green (Sydney Northside)
These events are ideal for beginners but also offer a challenge to experienced orienteers.
The start window is normally 9.30-11am.
We encourage all participants to pre-enter via Eventor.
2020 membership at record levels

ONSW is delighted to announce record levels of membership despite a year badly affected by the coronavirus.
At December 31, 2020 we had 1449 members - an increase of 5% on 2019 levels which were also a record.
Memberships (people can join as individuals or a family) grew a whopping 13% to a record 753.
Renewal rates were 79% but new members accounted for 23% of all memberships in an encouraging sign during trying times.
Our 14 clubs held 210 events in 2020 (down 30%) but this drop relates to the four-month period when there was no community sport. Likewise, total attendance was down 34% to 17,259.
These wonderful figures are a testament to our clubs and their hard-working volunteers.
At last night's annual general meeting, Louise Brooks (SHOO) was voted onto the Board and Technical Director Andrew Lumsden (Big Foot) stepped down after nine years of fantastic service. Thank you Andrew.
