Learn to Orienteer - Port Macquarie

Welcome to Orienteering NSW

Orienteering is a sport that challenges both the body and the mind. It's also loads of fun!

The aim is to use a special orienteering map to navigate your way around a course and visit marked check points along the way. You choose a course that suits your age and experience and proceed at your own pace: walk, jog or run. It is a race but you decide if you want to just race yourself or be the next world champion! The course may take you through urban areas, parks, schools, farmland or forests.

Events are conducted weekly across NSW and beginners are welcome at all events.

New to orienteering? Click here for more information.

Want to enter an event? You can see what's on by looking at the Coming Events at left or by going to the Event Calendar. Some events are enter on the day - you just turn up and register at the start. Other events require pre-entry and for that you need to know about (and register with) Eventor - read the Eventor FAQ.

2020 Xmas 5-Days cancelled

The current covid outbreak in Sydney has forced organisers to cancel the 2020 Xmas 5 days carnival.

We are naturally disappointed to have to make this call - but it is the right one given the circumstances and the uncertainty surrounding this latest spike in cases.

Refunds will be made automatically but will not happen until the new year when the ONSW office reopens.

Thanks to the 350+ entries who were so keen to end the year with some great bush orienteering.

Stay safe over Xmas and we look forward to being back in action as soon as is allowed and practical.

HOGs win Club of the Year

In the absence of official presentation functions - and with the latest covid outbreak hitting Sydney - we'll be rolling out news of our 2020 major award winners bit by bit.

First up is Club of the Year and our winner is a new club; an important geographical link between clubs in Coffs Harbour and Newcastle.

Since attracting more than 200 people to their first event in 2019, the HOGs have shown drive and determination to plant orienteering firmly as a sport in the Port Macquarie region.

The club is media-savvy, spreading the word about orienteering widely and successfully. Families are a big proportion of attendees which bodes well for the future.

With three new urban maps unveiled in 2020, full SI capability already, and State League events on the radar for 2021, this is a club with significant achievements already and a great future ahead.

ONSW President Robyn Pallas was on hand at their event at Wayne Richards Park on Sunday to present the trophy to president Matt Bell and his hard-working committee.

Congratulations Hastings Orienteering Group!

Easter 2021 entries reopen

All eyes are on Xmas, but here's a reminder that entries have reopened for Easter 2021 in the NSW central west.

This carnival was put back a year due to covid. Bulletin 1 has been updated.

For those people keen for a longer stay, there will also be two midweek events (Apr 7-8 around Orange) followed by the 2020 NSW Middle and Long champs at Eugowra on April 10-11.

This last weekend coincides with the start of the very popular Orange Food Week - so you should book your accommodation early.

Big Foot Sprints postponed

Due to the coronavirus outbreak on Sydney's northern beaches, the Big Foot Sprints set down for Frenchs Forest tomorrow (Sat 19 Dec) has been postponed to 2021.

The Feet hope to lock in a new date early in the New Year so watch out for an announcement.

In the meantime all entry fees will be automatically refunded.
